Buying a jar of honey: what to look for

Beyond the packaging, it is important to know what honey it contains, where it comes from and how much you are buying.

Honey jars and packaging: what matters inside

Whether you search for a honey jar, a pot of honey or a honey gift box, the packaging alone does not tell you where the honey comes from or how it was handled. Start with the product information.

What to check before buying honey

  • Origin: the place of origin indicated by the producer or packer.
  • Net weight: the amount of honey, not counting the glass, lid or case.
  • Identification: Who sells the product and what batch corresponds to the jar.
  • Price per kilogram: allows you to compare formats of different sizes.
  • Purchase conditions: availability and delivery costs, if any.

A jar for home or a jar to give as a gift

For regular consumption, the format must fit the amount you use. For a gift, the case and presentation can add value, but they do not replace the information of the honey. Ask what is included in the price.

Rosemary, multifloral or other flowering honey?

The floral name must correspond to the characteristics of the honey. Seeing rosemary, almond trees or other flowers near an apiary does not in itself prove that the crop is monofloral. At ALÒS we will communicate harvest information when it is available.
